About Us and Chisasibi

We are Leah and Alexandra, two students in the Master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology at McGill University. We are completing our final internship in Chisasibi, Northern Québec with the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay.

Here we are on our first day of the internship. We’re ready for the adventure to begin!

Chisasibi is a Cree community on the coast of James Bay. Chisasibi means “the great river” in Cree. The population is around 5000. Most people in the community have Cree as their first language and speak English as a second language.

  1. Hi, I am a SLP at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, just wanted to say your experience sounds amazing, I like that you are included in all these social events. If I were not a mom with a young child now, I would love to do something like this. Enjoy it 🙂

  3. Hi Leah and Alexandra,

What an adventure!! Chisasibi looks absolutely beautiful. Are most of the kids out at their camps for the summer? Does the town get regular visits throughout the year from an SLP? How big is the school? What age group are you assessing?
I look forward to your next posts!
    cheers,
    Deirdre
